PARTNERS FOR A CLEAN NEW MEXICO ENFORCEMENT

 

 

GOAL 1:

ILLEGAL DUMPING AND RELATED REGULATIONS AND STATUTES ARE ENFORCED EFFECTIVELY ACROSS ALL JURISDICTIONS

 

 

Objectives

 

  1. Develop a means to share information about illegal dumping crimes

  2. Develop a standard system for reporting illegal dumping

  3. Establish a data base to collect enforcement information

  4. Educate law enforcement officers on illegal dumping issues

  5. Establish a system to share lessons learned about successful detection and apprehension of illegal dumpers

ILLEGAL DUMPING CASES ARE AGGRESSIVELY

PROSECUTED USING THE REGULATIONS OR STATUTES OF THE JURISDICTION WITH THE HIGHEST LIKELIHOOD OF SUCCESS

 

 

Objectives

 

  1. Identify regulatory and other barriers to successful prosecution

  2. Address identified barriers

  3. Investigate the benefits of establishing an environmental court

  4. Establish a system to monitoring outcomes of prosecution

  5. Provide materials and training on effects of illegal dumping for prosecutors and judges  

  6. Review existing regulations to identify additional needed authorities

 

Projects to be identified

 

The NMED, BLM, USFS, and County Sheriffs are the primary enforcers of codes, regulation and statutes related to illegal dumping.
