NMAC regularly sponsors trainings in New Mexico for detention staff by NIC, AJA and other nationally recognized experts. In addition, Loss Prevention staff are available to provide trainings on a range of topics relevant to detention operations throughout the year in all counties.
In April 2013 trainers from NMAC and multiple trainers from 10 of the twelve county juvenile detention facilities attended a MacArthur Foundation funded training for trainers on a Mental Health Training Curriculum for Juvenile Justice. This training resulted in 22 county staff being certified to teach the course which is specifically designed for juvenile detention officers.
In May 2013 the NMAC Multiline Board funded 10 scholarships for county adult detention trainers to become certified as Mental Health First Aid trainers. The 40 hour course resulted in 30 trainers being certified in both the law enforcement and general MHFA courses including county trainers from Bernalillo, Chaves, Dona Ana,Lea, Roosevelt, San Juan, San Miguel, Sandoval, and Valencia counties.
