New Mexico counties began meeting on an annual basis in 1936 to address their concerns and collaborate on initiatives. In 1968
NMAC supports and promotes the idea that all county elected officials must have the opportunity to act together to solve problems and work for the progress of county government in New Mexico.

NMAC Sustaining MembersThe New Mexico Association of Counties Sustaining Membership Program is designed to bring county members, businesses and other governmental entities together. Sustaining members have special benefits for our conferences, access to our biennial membership directory, and an opportunity to create lasting relationships with over 1,000 county members. This membership structure for private businesses, individuals and governmental entities is outlined below. We accept new memberships throughout the year with annual renewal periods in January and June in conjunction with our Midwinter Legislative Conference and Annual Conference respectively. NMAC reserves the right to approve or refuse any membership and provide that information in writing. The first two categories are available to all businesses, nonprofits and individuals, while the third category is only available to local, state and federal agencies and their respective “political subdivisions” as defined by New Mexico State Statute including any municipality, district, or other local governmental agency or public agency recognized by New Mexico law such as Councils of Governments, Soil & Water Conservation Districts, Solid Waste Authority, Mutual Domestic Associations, Irrigation Districts, etc. Zia Membership - $1,000
Roadrunner Membership - $500
Yucca Membership - $250 (only for state and federal agencies and political subdivisions)
