Quay County

Quay County (pronounced “kway”) is a county located in Eastern New Mexico.  As of the 2000 census, the population is 10,115. 

The county seat is Tucumcari.  Quay County was named for Pennsylvania Senator Matthew Quay, who supported New Mexico statehood. Quay County was founded on February 28, 1903, consists of 2,882 square miles and 7 square miles of water. With a population of 9,401 (Census 2010), the largest city is Tucumcari but other villages & communities include: House, Logan, San Jon, Forrest, Glenrio, McAlister, Nara Visa, Quay, and Wheatland.

Description

This 40-hour training provides verbal de-escalation, crisis intervention, and mental health awareness training.  It is intended for Sheriff Deputies, Detention Staff, Firefighter and Emergency Medical First Responders. Course is free to NMC Law Enforcement Pool members.  Non-pool members may inquire about attending (based on availability) for a fee.  See attached flyer for more details.

Description

This four-day course is designed to be interactive with live scenario situations.  It is focused on teaching public safety personnel the art of peer support. Participants will gain crucial knowledge about communication skills and techniques that are effective in supportively working with people to gain a mutually beneficial outcome.  Participants will also learn to address people in crisis in a manner that reduces tension and the possibility for physical injury to anyone involved.
