Risk Management

The Risk Management Department is responsible for oversight and operations of the three self-insurance pools. The department works closely with member counties and the NMAC departments that provide services to pool members: Loss Prevention, Multi-Line Claims, and Workers’ Compensation Claims.

In addition, Risk Management is charged with underwriting for the three pools, carefully analyzing counties’ loss experience and exposures. Part of the underwriting function includes working with the counties to compile detailed exposure data such as a county’s total insured value and working with outside vendors on payroll and property audits.

The Risk Management Department works closely with the pools’ broker, A.J. Gallagher, on procuring excess and reinsurance. The Department assists counties with detailed loss analysis, loss run reports, and custom reports focusing on county department exposures and trending claims.

The department also works closely with the Workers’ Compensation and Multi-Line Boards of Directors, assisting with projects and committees.
