Bernalillo History & Culture
Rich in history and culture, Bernalillo County is located in central New Mexico, and stretches from the East Mountain area (north of the Sandia Mountains) to the Volcano Cliffs on the west mesa and has the largest population in the state.
As one of the oldest cities in the U.S., Albuquerque boasts a unique multicultural heritage and history where Native American, Hispanic & Latino, Anglo and other cultural influences are a part of everyday life.
There are famous places of interest everywhere in town, such as the ancient rock carvings at Petroglyph National Monument, the historic Old Town Plaza and the trail of vintage neon signs along Route 66.
Albuquerque is a destination for special events that include the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta® and the New Mexico State Fair. The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque is one of the major post-secondary educational resources in the state.
