Lincoln History & Culture

Lincoln County is famous for Lincoln National Forest. Most of the population is centered in the Greater Ruidoso Area while the town of Carrizozo serves as the county seat and is located in the Tularosa Basin northwest of Ruidoso. The Village of Ruidoso is nestled in the Sacramento Mountains in the Lincoln National Forest. Ruidoso and the surrounding area offer many quaint shops, a variety of restaurants, walking paths in the forest, parks, lakes, camping, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding, and many other activities including skiing and tubing in the winter. Less than an hour north from Ruidoso, Carrizozo boasts a variety of lodgings, shops and restaurants, as well as a growing art community, while still maintaining a friendly small town atmosphere.
